Are You Suffering Light Bladder Leakage During Pregnancy or PostpartumUrinary incontinence conditions in women whilst pregnant and following child-birth are common but rarely discussed.

The statistics are alarming however and it is an important issue.  1 in 3 women over the age of 18 experience episodes of light bladder leakage (LBL), involuntarily.

It’s time to begin a dialogue about it.  If this is you, you are not alone!

Incontinence during pregnancy

There are many kinds of urinary incontinence conditions but one that is usually brought on during pregnancy is called Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI).  This can often continue on postpartum too.

SUI is typically caused by a weak pelvic floor and those who have SUI may leak whilst exercising, dancing, when they laugh, cough, or even sneeze. Kegel exercises before and after delivery can help strengthen the pelvic floor muscles but SUI is not just limited to those neglecting their Kegels.

Light bladder leakage is a very common issue and yet it remains a topic most women are too embarrassed to talk about.  If you are suffering in silence and stocking up on panty liners at every shop, consider your options.

If you experience any of these concerns (or know someone who does) you may be sick of wearing pads day in and day out. To manage this in private, before or after you seek medical advice, you may want to consider adding leak proof underwear to your postpartum wardrobe capsule.

Think make period panties for women to wear during their monthly period and also to help manage postpartum bleeding as a replacement for a tampon, pad or menstrual cup.  They have a new range called Icon, and amongst other underwear designers, manufacture leak proof panties for women.

Hush Hush Absorbent Panties

Leak proof underwear is

  • absorbent
  • stain and leak resistant
  • odor free, and
  • is designed to capture unintended leaks keeping you dry and protected.

How does Icon underwear work?

According to the website, absorbing odor dissolving technology is built into the underwear lining so when you wear them you no longer need to worry about going to the bathroom to change pads or worse still, change your underwear.  They are made of a nylon/lycra blend  and are incredibly soft. They are guaranteed to hold up to 5 teaspoons of liquid and will not leak through.  The Icon underwear comes in sizes XS-XXL and in two colors, nude and black.

So whether you are suffering in silence with some short term problems during pregnancy or postpartum, there is a solution to help you take control and feel more comfortable.  Of course, don’t give up on your kegel exercises and most certainly seek medical advice if your problem continues for a few months postpartum as there are other avenues to help you.
